Wow. I don't know what else to say to describe how I feel about this place.
Yesterday started out with a quiet morning before Darren woke up. He stumbled out of bed about 7:30. We headed off to Eggberts for breakfast (yes...Eggberts...it's great!). I had an amazing eggs benedict and Darren had banana pancakes and is now trying to convince me we have to attempt to find coconut syrup in Canada.
We wandered through the coconut market place, but a lot of the stores were closed because it was Sunday. Darren bought a bright red Hawaiian shirt. He looks quite good :-) I've given up hope that my hair will not curl in this humidity, and it's actually not lookin' too bad ;-) Just call me Curly Sue.
We headed back to the condo, and walked down the beach. The waves right outside the condo are quite high and frequent, and swimming is not recommended along this stretch. However, about 1/4 of a mile down the beach is a sea wall and a great swimming area. Walking along the surf with the sand and waves at our feet was fantastic. After heading back to the condo, I had to lie down for a bit. I was just so tired. Travelling the day before had really caught up to me.
Darren woke me up to head back to the swimming beach. The ocean was nice and warm and there were fish swimming around within the sea-walled area. We didn't stay out too long as my pasty white skin will quickly become red if I'm not careful. Back to the condo we headed and sat around the pool area for a bit as well. It's just so hard to stay inside when it's so beautiful outside!
We went to Duke's for supper. I'd heard good things about it. The decor was distinctly Hawaiian, and there were musicians/singers going and performing table side. The food however, was not worth it. It was a fair bit more expensive than our first night, and not worth it. It was alright, but just that...alright.
Heading back to the condo with the top down on the convertible, we both commented on how fresh and green is smells here. And dark. The sun doesn't just go down, it disappears! You go from dusk to dark in a matter of minutes.
It was overall, a very quiet day. I talked with mom for a few minutes (and going oh crap! it's 11:00 pm there as they are 5 hours ahead of us). However, we need days like this. Quiet, relaxing days. Darren is enjoying himself, as am I.
Monday is going to be a bit busier as we have the Luau. We plan on going back to the marketplace. I want to explore the island a bit more. A lot of the driving we've done has been in the dark, so we really don't get the chance to see much. It is such a beautiful island and I want to see as much as possible!
